The Frustrated Soldier

I am trying to imagine the amount of frustration that is grounding some or maybe all of our soldiers who were ordered to evacuate Afghanistan.

After years of their service there, and despite their military missions. They are human beings at the end of the day. So, I am sure that they built some friendships with people around them.

I can imagine a soldier leaving his post for a vacation, while a local guy asks him in fear:

-         “Are you leaving for good”?

-         “No, it is just a visit to see my family. Don't worry, my fellow soldiers are here to protect you and your family. Didn't I tell you many times: don't worry, we will protect you, that I promise, my government and my people promise.”

But it all ended on the day before yesterday when orders came in to evacuate in T-minus 24hours.

I bet all the soldiers that were ordered to evacuate were thinking the same thoughts:

“What about all the people around us? Those whom we promised to protect, defend and keep alive?”

But at the end of the day these were orders giving to soldiers.

And of course, our soldiers swore to obey, and follow orders. But our soldiers are humans too. They feel for others, they have compassion, and they love, they joined the armed forces to keep people safe, their country and fight for rights and freedoms.

Now, how can we remove the sad memories they brought with them? How can we help them forget that they turned their back on those who lived for years believing that these Canadian soldiers will protect us!

What an unforgettable shame this government brought to this nation.
